Cookies and Tracking

We use two client-side storage mechanisms that never require consent because they are strictly necessary and result directly from an action you took: localStorage to remember your theme preference (light/dark mode), and a flag confirming you already voted on a country's Community Sentiment. Neither sets a cookie. Separately, Microsoft Clarity sets analytics/session-replay cookies (_clck, _clsk, and related Microsoft cookies) — but only after you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. Clarity never loads, and no cookie is set, until you give that consent. You can withdraw consent at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, which also deletes these cookies.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics and, only with your consent, Microsoft Clarity. Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless, collects no personal data, does not track individual users, and always runs without requiring consent — it provides aggregated statistics such as page views, referrers, and geographic regions. Microsoft Clarity records anonymized user interactions (clicks, scrolls, navigation) to help us improve usability and automatically masks sensitive content, but it is loaded — and its cookies set — only after you accept our cookie banner. If you reject the banner or have not yet responded, Clarity does not load and sets no cookies.

Data Processing

This website does not collect, store, or process any personal data. We do not have user accounts, login forms, contact forms, or any mechanism that collects personal information. The safety scores and data displayed are aggregated from public sources and do not contain personal data.

Hosting

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process technical data (such as IP addresses) as part of its infrastructure to serve web pages. This processing is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not have access to individual visitor data. We also rely on Resend, Inc. (USA) for newsletter delivery and GitHub, Inc. / Microsoft for the automation that triggers our daily digest; both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework with UK/SCC extensions.

Newsletter / Daily Digest

If you subscribe to our email digest, we collect and store your email address, your language preference, the page you subscribed from, and — as proof of consent — the date and time of your subscription, the version of this consent text you agreed to, and the two-letter country code of your connection (derived from your IP by our host; we never store your full IP address). We use this data for the sole purpose of sending you the safety-update digest you asked for. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules on electronic marketing). We confirm every subscription by email (double opt-in) and never share your address with third parties for their own marketing. Your email is stored in our Cloudflare D1 database and sent via Resend, Inc. (USA); both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Unconfirmed subscriptions are deleted after 30 days. You can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click link in every email; after you unsubscribe we delete your profile but keep a minimal record (a hashed identifier and the consent date) for up to 3 years to honour your opt-out and to evidence prior consent. Community votes

When you submit a Community Sentiment calibration, we store a salted hash of your IP address for abuse prevention and duplicate-vote detection — we never store your raw IP address. Cloudflare Turnstile may run an anti-bot check when enabled. We also save a flag in your browser's localStorage so you are not asked to vote again for a country you already voted on; this is local device storage, not a cookie, and is exempt from cookie-consent rules as strictly necessary functionality. We also store the two-letter country code of your connection (from your host's geolocation header, never your full IP address) to detect coordinated vote manipulation and to show aggregate, country-level context. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping community scores trustworthy; the data is coarse, pseudonymous, and never used to profile or track you.
